Lesser Known Colorado, Vol. 1

In May 2019 I launched Lesser Known Cryptids, a daily photoblog collecting evidence of the weird, strange, odd, and uncanny creatures and objects that coexist alongside us often right under our noses — creatures like the Soup Goose, the Halloween Thataway, the Underwood Ham Devil, and the Olean Walmart Friends. No Bigfeet, Mothed Men, or Locked Nessies here; LKC exists to shine a light on the unappreciated and underloved cryptids who will never make the front pages of the tabloids! Initially a Twitter account, over the past four and a half years Lesser Known Cryptids has expanded to also have accounts on Tumblr, Instagram, and even Facebook if you're nasty (with plans to launch a dedicated webpage hopefully in 2024!), and I'm proud  to say that we've managed to post an original photo almost every single day in that span of time — thanks in no small part to submissions from our lovely and dedicated followers! That's over 1500 cryptids catalogued, with no plans to slow down any time soon!

Some time after launching the account I decided I wanted to be able to pull from a dedicated collection of imagery to establish a unified aesthetic when doing design work for LKC. I purchased and looked through several different licensable photo packs searching for the right vibe before I remembered: I live in Colorado, one of the most beautiful states in the nation, and I've got a phone with a camera! From that point I started collecting photos on my regular walks, hikes, and fishing trips that I could use for headers, background images, and other graphic design projects. Today, I'm making those photos available to you!

What you are downloading is a curated selection of 112 outdoor photos taken in the Jefferson, Clear Creek, and Grand Counties of Colorado. These are for the most part raw, unedited, and presented at their original size, able to be manipulated in whatever fashion you desire for your collages, game projects, visual novels, backgrounds, or whatever other project you have in mind. These photos are released under a Creative Commons BY 4.0 license; this means you can download, share, edit, transform, and use them in any way you see fit, provided you give credit back to me!
